Are you a product designer but don't influence the product direction? You are just an operator.

Years ago, a university professor told me that programmers were code laborers. At the time, I didn't believe it and felt it diminished the work I wanted to do. But upon further reflection, if a programmer is only involved in processing the project and doesn't give any input or influence its direction, they become a mere executor, an assembly line worker.

The same applies to Product Designers. Are you just a cog or do you have the power to steer the product? If you're a Figma decorator, your work can be essentially replaced, in short, by AI.
